Circus Skills
Are you an experienced acrobat? Do you possess the gift of balance and ride the unicycle? Bring your extraordinary circus skills to camp with Skilled Summers, have the time of your life and inspire the next generation of performers.
Circus lessons at camp offer campers the perfect opportunity to try something new. There is nothing more magical than a circus performance and campers fully embrace the trick and performance.
Amongst the traditional camps, there are also specialist performing arts camps. Dependant on camp type, your sessions will either be part of an on-going progressive coaching plan for the campers or a beginners guide to the skill with campers of varying ability. You’ll be supported by several other staff to ensure safety of campers in maintained at all times.
There are so many different elements that fall under this category. We have highlighted a few below but do not hesitate to get in touch whatever your skill may be. You may be experienced in one or more of these areas. This will only strengthen your application.
A first aid certificate may be required.
Acrobatics
As an Acrobatics Instructor, you’ll help campers build strength, balance, coordination and confidence through fun, energetic sessions.

As an Acrobatics Instructor, you’ll help campers build strength, balance, coordination and confidence through fun, energetic sessions. You may work with complete beginners or more experienced campers, introducing them to different acrobatic movements in a safe and supportive environment.
Your role will include the teaching of:
Agility/Balance
Circus Training
Ballet elements
Diving/Gymnastics elements
Camp will provide you with most of the equipment, but you can feel free to bring your own.
Preferred Experience or Qualifications:
Experience performing your skill and full competence in the delivery
Confident teaching to a group of campers
Circus Rigging
As a Circus Rigging , you’ll help ensure circus activities are set up and operated safely throughout camp.

As a Circus Rigging , you’ll help ensure circus activities are set up and operated safely throughout camp. You’ll work with specialist equipment, support aerial sessions and help create a safe environment for campers and instructors taking part in circus activities.
Your role will include the teaching of:
Aerial Rigging
Film Rigging experience
Theatre Rigging experience
Self performance/Rigging
Professional/Amateur or Specialty Rigging
Specialty Fabricating
Camp will provide you with most of the equipment, but you can feel free to bring your own.

Tight Rope/Wire Walking
As a Tight Rope and Wire Walking Instructor, you’ll help campers develop balance, concentration and confidence while learning a unique circus skill.

As a Tight Rope and Wire Walking Instructor, you’ll help campers develop balance, concentration and confidence while learning a unique circus skill. You’ll introduce techniques gradually, from basic balancing to more advanced wire and slackline activities where appropriate.
Your role will include the teaching of:
Acrobatics/Juggling on wire
Freestyling
Slacklining
Aerial rigging
Highwire / Slackwire /Tightwire
Camp will provide you with most of the equipment, but you can feel free to bring your own.

Silks
As an Aerial Silks Instructor, you’ll teach campers the foundations of aerial silks in a safe, controlled and encouraging environment.

As an Aerial Silks Instructor, you’ll teach campers the foundations of aerial silks in a safe, controlled and encouraging environment. You’ll help them develop strength, flexibility and confidence while learning climbs, holds, poses and simple sequences.

Unicycle
You’ll help campers develop balance, coordination and confidence as they learn to ride and control a unicycle.

You’ll help campers develop balance, coordination and confidence as they learn to ride and control a unicycle. Sessions can range from complete beginner skills to freestyle techniques, tricks and more advanced riding for experienced campers.

Outdoor Education
As Outdoor Education Instructor, your vast experience will mean that you can be involved in several different areas under this category.
About
As Outdoor Education Instructor, your vast experience will mean that you can be involved in several different areas under this category. You truly embrace the outdoors and will encourage campers to do the same.
Dependant on camp, it is worthwhile to have experience in leadership and teaching groups as you may be considered by a camp to oversea the area in a more senior position or lead campers on off-camp extended trips.
Your role will include the teaching of:
Teaching camping skills, such as pitching a tent and fire building
Outdoor cooking
Low initiatives and running team building activities
Canoeing/kayaking
Hiking/trekking
Orienteering
Lesson planning
Delivering basic first aid
Preferred Experience or Qualifications:
Leadership experience
Duke of Edinburgh silver or above
Wilderness Trip Leader
As a Wilderness Trip Leader, your experience will be similar to that of an outdoor education instructor, but taken to the next level.

As a Wilderness Trip Leader, your experience will be similar to that of an outdoor education instructor, but taken to the next level.
A lot of camps run off-camp extended trips, such as canoeing trips to Canada, hiking trips at national parks or canoeing expeditions down a local river, to name a few. Camps will be looking to hire staff who have the experience to lead these trips and remain responsible for the safety of campers at all times.
Your role will include the teaching of:

Long backpacking trips (mountain climbing, long distance walks)
Wild camping (not essential but preferred)
