No matter how big or small, each camp location has access to a body of water.
Whether it is a swimming pool, lake or the ocean, the waterfront is a central part of every camp location and therefore watersports staff are highly sought after.
Boat Driver
Drive motorboats safely around camp, support waterfront activities and help sessions run smoothly. Strong boat handling, awareness and good judgement are essential.
About
As a Boat Driver, you’ll help keep waterfront activities running safely and smoothly by operating powered boats around camp. You may support activities such as waterskiing, wakeboarding, kneeboarding, tubing and other water sports.
You should be confident handling a powerboat, aware of changing water conditions and comfortable taking responsibility for camper safety.
Your role will include the teaching of:
• Safely operating camp powerboats
• Towing waterskiers, wakeboarders, kneeboarders and tubers
• Supporting shallow water, deep water and dock starts
• Following safe towing procedures
• Working closely with lifeguards and waterfront staff
• Monitoring water and weather conditions
• Maintaining docking areas and boating equipment
• Basic cleaning and maintenance of boats
• Refuelling and checking oil where required
• Helping campers feel safe and confident during activities
Preferred Experience or Qualifications:
• RYA Level 2 Powerboat Licence or equivalent
• Previous powerboat driving experience
• Experience towing water sports participants is highly desirable
• Strong understanding of boating and water safety
• Confidence operating boats around swimmers and other watercraft
• Camp recognised first aid qualification may be required
Lifeguard
Lifeguarding demands strong swimming ability, alertness and responsible decision-making around the water. No current qualification is required.

Being a strong swimmer is essential and having a ACA recognised lifeguard certification is preferred. Some camps will still be willing to consider hiring you if you hold a non-recognised or expired certification as camps regularly hold lifeguard training courses as part of staff training.
You must be responsible and alert. Waterfront emergencies are rare but do happen and it is up to you to ensure a situation doesn’t turn from bad to worse should one occur.
Your role will include the teaching of:
Maintaining swimmer safety using a 'buddy system'
Being prepared for each session (buoyancy aids, sunglasses)
Handing out floats and buoyancy aids, for fun and to increase swimmer confidence in the water
Perform water rescues when required (lifesaving tows, using a reach pole, perform a straddle jump, sidestroke)
Treading water/surface diving
Preferred Experience or Qualifications:
NPLQ / RLSS certification (current or expired)
ASA level 2 swimming teacher (preferred but not essential)
Swim Instructor
Swimming instruction requires strong technique and adaptable coaching to help campers of all abilities develop confidence and improve in the water.
About
Become a Swim Instructor at camp, spend your summer in and around the water and help campers improve their swimming ability.
As a Swim Instructor, you will spend your days coaching campers, both 1-to-1 and in groups, from beginner level to advanced.
Your role will include the teaching of:
Be comfortable swimming in pools and lake/dark water
Have an ACA recognised swimming instructor qualificatio
Teaching backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, freestyle and sidestroke
Teaching campers how to remain safe in, on and around water
Emergency procedures
Teaching diving techniques
Lesson planning
Creating games and activities to further campers ability
You may be required to complete the American Water Safety Course after arrival at camp. You must have a camp recognised first aid certification.
Preferred Experience or Qualifications:
ASA level 2 Swimming teacher
STA Swimming Teaching Association qualification
NPLQ/RLSS lifeguard certification
Scuba Diving Master
Teach or assist with scuba diving at camp, helping campers build confidence and skills in the water. Dive Master certification and teaching experience are preferred.

Sailing Instructor
Sailing Instructor
About
As a Sailing Instructor, you’ll teach campers how to sail safely and confidently while helping them develop practical skills on the water. Depending on the camp, you could be sailing on a lake, river or coastal waterway.
You’ll work with campers of different abilities, from complete beginners to more confident sailors, while keeping sessions fun, structured and safety focused.
Your role will include the teaching of:
• Basic sailing techniques
• Steering and boat control
• Sail handling
• Tacking and gybing
• Launching and returning to shore
• Water safety and boating rules
• Understanding wind direction and conditions
• Building confidence on the water
• Caring for sailing equipment
• Working closely with lifeguards and waterfront staff
Preferred Experience or Qualifications:
• RYA Level 2 Sailing or equivalent
• Experience with dinghies, multihulls or small keelboats
• Previous sailing experience
• Previous teaching or coaching experience is useful
• Confidence working with children on the water
• Camp recognised first aid qualification may be required
Canoe/Kayak Instructor
Teach canoeing and kayaking at camp, helping campers build confidence, learn paddling skills and enjoy safe, fun adventures on lakes and rivers.

Whether out canoeing on the lake or taking on the rapids on the local river in a kayak, both of these areas are incredibly popular activity choices by campers.
A camps facilities may vary dependant on size but most have a vast range of equipment to take out on the water and are looking for the perfect staff to man these areas who are responsible, skilled and will make sure every second the campers are in the canoe or kayak is a fun one.
Your role will include the teaching of:
Lead groups of campers out on the water
Teach campers all about the equipment used (paddle, life jacket)
Teach campers how to move through the water using stroke technique
Teach safety measures and maintain camper safety at all times.
