"If working at camp doesn’t become the best experience of your life, I don’t know what will! There really is nothing that compares."
Our Equestrian programme is particularly close to us. Cat, our Director, worked at summer camp as a riding instructor herself and has personally visited every camp we currently partner with.
We carefully select our camps based on horse welfare, facilities, equipment and the support they provide to staff, and we only continue working with camps that receive great feedback from our participants.
Cat began her camp journey as a ‘Barn Chick’ (aka riding instructor!) at Camp Arbutus Hayo-Went-Ha in Michigan and has worked in summer camp recruitment ever since.
Having spent months travelling across the States and visiting camps first-hand, she knows exactly what makes a great camp and can help match you with the right one.
And when she’s not busy finding the perfect staff for camp, you’ll usually find her spending time with her horse, Sol. 🐴
YOUR SKILLS ARE VALUABLE
Whatever you’re good at, camps can use it.
We’ll help match your experience to the right camp, then support you through the application, placement and journey to camp. Here are just a few of the many amazing skills camps look for:
English
You’ll need to be a confident rider with good horse care knowledge. You’ll teach children the basics through small group, 1-to-1 and ground-based lessons.
Stable Management
Stable management is an important part of working within a camp equestrian programme, so you’ll need a good understanding of day-to-day horse care.
Trail Riding
Trail riding is offered at many camps, so you’ll need to be confident controlling both horses and small groups of riders in open spaces.
Western
Western riding is a popular part of many camp equestrian programmes, combining practical riding skills with a relaxed and hands on style.

Once in a lifetime experiance!
I spent my summer at Camp Talisman for kids with autism and ADHD. I had an amazing time, by far the best experience of my life which I would recommend anyone to do at least once in their lifetime. There are many different camp types out there to suit everyone, so don't worry. Skilled Summers will match you to the perfect camp.

A Rewarding Summer with Skilled Summer
I had an amazing experience working with Skilled Summers. This year, I went to Camp Chipinaw working as the weights instructor. The process of getting placed was smooth and well-organized, and I always felt supported along the way. Cat was especially helpful—she answered every question quickly and made sure I felt confident before heading out. The role itself was a perfect fit, and it gave me the chance to grow while doing something I love. I’m grateful for the opportunity and would definitely recommend Skilled Summers to anyone looking for a rewarding camp experience.
